Dhaka, Aug 12 (UNB) – Investigation officer of the case filed against Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee on charges of crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971 was crossed-examined on Sunday.

Investigation officer Helal Uddin was cross-examined at the International Crimes Tribunal-1, led by Justice Nizamul Huq, for the 47th time today.

During the cross-examination, defence counsel Mijanul Islam asked the investigator whether he measured the values of Sayedes’s residences in Khulna and Dhaka.

Helal Uddin replied in the negative.

Helal Uddin also replied in the negative when he was asked whether he had visited Sayedee’s residences in Dhaka and Khulna.

The defence counsel told that the tribunal that Sayedee brought his residence in Dhaka with bank loan.

Another lawyer for Sayedee Manzur Ahmed Ansari said that Sayedee has a tin-shed small house in Khulna.

There is allegation against Sayedee that the Jamaat leader set 25 houses on fire at Umedpur village in Pirojpur.

While replying to that allegation, the investigating officer said that he visited those houses and stayed one and a half-hours during the course of his investigation.       

In reply, Sayedee’s counsel Manzur Ahmed Ansari said that it is tough to visit 25 houses, talk to inmates of each house and collect information within only one and a half-hours.

The first tribunal, set up on Mar 25 2010 to try crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, indicted the Jamaat leader on 20 counts of such crimes including murder, rape, arson and loot.
