News - Govt maneuvering to cling to power: Fakhrul
Dhaka, Aug 12 (UNB) - Accusing the government of politicising the administration, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said the ruling party is trying to perpetuate its power by holding the next general election under their own arrangement.

“Awami League won’t be able to come to power if the election is held under the caretaker government. So, the government is desperate to hold the next polls under their supervision to stick to power,” Fakhrul told a seminar at National Press Club.

Former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Forum of Jahangirnagar University (JU) organised the seminar, titled ‘Inter-river linking Project of India, Dam created by China and Adopted Measures to Resolve Water Crisis in Bangladesh’.

Slamming AL acting general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif for his remarks that the ruling party will never accept the caretaker system, the BNP spokesman said they will force the government to reinstate the system through an irresistible movement after Eid.

“The next general election must be held under a non-party neutral government to establish a pro-people government,” he said.

The BNP leader said the government has failed to realise the country’s due share of waters from the common rivers due to its subservient policy. “The government is not raising different bilateral issues like Tipaimukh Dam in international forums to protect the country’s people from the possible dangers.”

AKM Wahiduzzaman, a teacher of the National University, presented the keynote paper at the seminar.
