News - Housewife killed for dowry in Jessore
Benapole (Jessore), Aug 13 (UNB) – A pregnant housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Taruapara village in Manirampur upazila of Jessore district on Sunday night.

The victim was identified as Sunita Roy, 20, wife of Tapash Roy of the village.

Police said Sunita, daughter of Nilratan Sarker of Kashidanga village in Kalaroa upazila of Satkhira district, was married off to Tapash, son of Nirmal Roy of Taruapara, barely six months ago.

Tapash had been torturing her wife since their marriage to bring Tk 1 lakh from her parents as dowry which she repeatedly refused.

Tapash beat Sunita indiscriminately on Sunday night following a brawl over the issue, leaving her dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy on Monday morning.

They also arrested Tapash who confessed to beating her wife to death.

A case was filed in this connection.
