Dhaka, Aug 13 (UNB) – The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has chalked out a two-day programme to celebrate its 34th founding anniversary on September 1.
Besides, BNP will observe the September 11 and 3 as the jail release days of party chief Khaleda Zia and vice-chairman Tarique Rahman respectively.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the party at its Nayapaltan headquarters with BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the chair.
On September 1, late President Ziaur Rahman founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with a 19-point programme to build a self-reliant Bangladesh with a key slogan of ‘politics of development and production’.
As per the programmes taken to celebrate the founding anniversary, the party will hold a discussion at the Engineers’ Institute followed by a cultural programme by Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) on August 31.
On September 1, party and national flags will be hoisted at party offices across the country in the morning. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia along with the party leaders and activists will place wreaths and offer fateha at the grave of party founder late president Ziaur Rahman at 10am on the day.
Meanwhile, separate discussions will be held to mark the jail release days of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman on September 11 and 3 respectively.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal will also bring out a colorful rally on September 3 marking the jail release day of Tarique.
