
Dhaka, Aug 14 (UNB) – Stocks at the country’s twin bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) -- made moderate gains on Tuesday, the last trading day before the long break ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
The DSE benchmark index, DGEN, gained 47.92 points or 1.13 percent to close at 4256.32 points after the end of the day’s trading. The DSE key index lost 28.06 points or 0.66 percent on Monday.
Of the issues traded on the day, 167 gained, 79 declined and 23 remained unchanged.
“As the month of holy Ramadan has come to its fag end, investors expect higher participation after the Eid, which kept them positive today,” IDLC Finance Limited said in its daily market analysis.
On the expectation of short-term rally after the Eid vacation, DGEN advanced by 216.45 points, in total, in the last six trading sessions.
The day’s most gaining sectors included NBFI (+4.32%), IT (+4.05%) and Fuel & Power (+2.55%).
The top 10 gainers of the day are Aamra Technology, Bangladesh Submarine Cables, Unique Hotels, Saiham Cotton, Lanka-Bangla Finance, Monno Jute Staffers, Pheonix Finance, NTC, Bangas and ICB.
Share prices worth Tk 362.59 crore were traded against Tk 278.95 crore transactions made on Sunday.
The port city bourse also witnessed the similar trend. The CSE key index, CSCX, gained 74.36 points to stand at 8166.48 points at close.
Of the issues traded at the CSE, 119 gained, 47 declined and 19 remained unchanged.
The top 10 gainers in CSE of the day are Bangladesh Submarine Cables Company Limited, Aamra Technology, Saiham Cotton, Unique Hotels, Midas Finance, Lanka-Bangla Finance, Phoenix Finance, Summit Power, ILFSL and Islamic Finance.
Share prices worth Tk. 38.31 crore were traded at the CSE on the day while the turnover was Tk 31.22 crore on Monday.
Meanwhile, trading and official activities at both the bourses will remain closed from August 15 to August 25 for National Mourning Day, Shab-e-Qadr, Eid-ul-Fitr, weekly holidays, and special holidays for Eid-ul-Fitr.
Trading at the DSE and the CSE will revert to its previous time schedule (10:30am to 2:30pm) from August 26 while official activities will continue from 9:30am to 5:30pm.
