News - No evil force can remove Khaleda from politics: BNP
Dhaka, Aug 14 (UNB) – Criticising Jatiay Party (JP) chairman HM Ershad for backing the minus-2 formula, BNP leaders on Tuesday said no vested quarter can remove their party chief Khaleda Zia from politics.

“No evil force will be able to remove BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from politics. Instead, people will drive away Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and JP chief Ershad from power as well as politics,” former BNP deputy minister Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu told a human chain programme.

Deshnetri Forum (DF), a pro-BNP body, arranged the programme in front of National Press Club in the city protesting Jatiay Party (JP) Chairman Ershad’s remarks about removal of Khaleda Zia from politics.

At a programme in Rangpur on Friday, Ershad said there is no alternative to removing the two ladies --Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia -- from politics to move the country forward.

The minus-two formula cropped up after the 1/11 changeover in 2007.

The then Fakhruddin-Moyeenuddin-led interim regime had tried to remove Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from politics but their all efforts finally went in vain.

Denouncing Ershad’s remarks, Dulu said dictator Ershad is now roaming across the country though he was eliminated from politics in 1990 through a mass upsurge.

Mentioning that the government has totally failed to run the country, the BNP leader said they will force the government to reinstate the caretaker government system through launching a harsher movement after Eid.

BNP executive member Khaled Yasmin also criticised Ershad’s comments, saying that the people of the country will resist if any vested quarter conspires against Khaleda.

Accusing the Jatiay Party chairman of hatching plot one after another against BNP, she said BNP will get stronger day by day foiling any sort of conspiracy.
