Dhaka, Aug 15 (UNB) - Plainclothes police have recovered six stolen motorcycles and one private car and arrested seven alleged carjackers from different parts of the capital.
The recovery and arrest were made during separate drives conducted by the special carjacking prevention team of Detective Branch of police from August 10 to August 14, said DB officials.
The DB officials said the special team of the detectives, led by assistant commissioner Muntasir Rahman, conducted drives in different areas in the capital during the period and arrested the carjackers and recovered the stolen vehicles from their possession.
The DB special team arrested Mostafijur Rahman, 25, Toufiqul Islam alias Runti, 26, Faisal Hossain alias Tanmoy, 26, and Asibur Rahman, 20, from the city’s Tejgaon area.
Six stolen motorcycles were also recovered from their possession.
The same DB team arrested three other carjackers -- Selim alias Salam, 24, Al Bahar, 35, and Jamal, 24 -- from Rupnagar area on August 10 and recovered one stolen private car from their possession.
After prima facie investigation, the detectives unearthed that Rinto and Faisal had long been involved in motorcycle lifting and selling those after making false documents of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority.
The arrestees revealed that they have so far sold out 100 stolen motorcycles and they have a car stealing gang consisting of 30 members, said the DB officials.
