Mobile court attacked in Maowa ghat

Munshiganj, Aug 16 (UNB) - People of Maowa ghat leaseholders attacked a mobile court and ransacked its vehicle as the court nabbed two people for taking extra fare from speed-boat passengers at the ghat on Thursday morning.

Locals said the mobile court led by Louhajang upazila UNO M Saiful Islam launched a drive in the ghat area and detained the two people on charge of taking extra fare in the ghat at about 10:30am.

Later, some people of Maowa ghat leaseholder Hamidul Islam who is also president of local union unit Jubo League attacked and ransacked the vehicle of the UNO that left his driver Ataur Rahman injured.

The miscreants also at one stage snatched away the detainees from the mobile court.

Additional police and RAB members have been deployed in the ghat area to maintain law and order in the ghat area.
