Dhaka, Aug 16 (UNB) – Shrugging off Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad’s remarks about the removal of two ladies from politics, BNP acting secretary general Fakhrul on Thursday said no politics will be successful in the country keeping Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina aside.
“We’re not worried about it…Those who are thinking of eliminating the two leaders from politics are living in fool’s paradise,” he told reports while visiting the Banani residence of missing BNP leader M Ilias Ali.
On August 10, Ershad, now in India, said there is no alternative to removing the two ladies --Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia -- from politics to move the country forward.
The former military ruler reminded the much-talked-about minus-two formula while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a Rangpur-based daily ‘Dainik Amader Protidin’ in the city. The minus-two formula cropped up after the 1/11 changeover in 2007.
The then Fakhruddin-Moyeenuddin-led interim regime had tried to remove Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from politics but their all efforts finally went in vain.
When his attention was drawn to Ershad’s comments, Fakhrul said the politics of Bangladesh still depends on the two leaders — BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
“No situation has created in the country that demands the removal of the two leaders from politics,“ he added.
