Dhaka, Aug 16 (UNB) – Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Thursday hoped that his party will return to power through a free and fair election.
“Whenever AL came to power, it did only with people’s mandate,” he said addressing a discussion meeting marking the 37th assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members.
Awami League does not have the history of staging coup, indulging in vote rigging and capturing voting centres, he told the meeting held at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
The LGRD Minister also observed that it is not possible for AL to cooperate with the party the chief of which deliberately observes her birthday and cut cakes on the same day when Bangabandhu was assassinated although it is not her real birthday.
Ashraful also questioned whether it is ever possible for his party to forge a unity with the killers and their accomplices when the government has been trying to take the country ahead.
He also urged his party men to forge a strong unity putting behind the differences of opinions showing respect for the Father of the Nation.
