News - Palli Kabi’s Asmani passes away; PM condoles

Dhaka, Aug 18 (UNB) – Asmani, personified by Palli Kabi Jasimuddin in his famous poem 'Asmani', died at her Rasulpur village home under Eshan Gopalpur in Faridpur Sadar upazila on Friday night at the age of 99.

The poet described the pain and sorrows of Asmani’s poor family in the poem.

Asmani, suffering from old age complications, was treated at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in June last. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had provided financial support for her treatment.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister on Saturday expressed profound shock at the death of Asmani.

In her condolence message, the Prime Minister said Asmani was a unique character represented by Palli Kabi Jasimuddin symbolising a poverty-stricken little girl of Rasulpur with shattered dreams and broken spirit after her early marriage.

The Prime Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
