Four killed in road crashes in Munshiganj, Comilla

Dhaka, Aug 18 (UNB) - At least four people were killed and 50 others injured in separate road accidents in Munshiganj and Comilla districts on Saturday and Friday night.

In Munshiganj, a Gopalganj-bound microbus plunged into a roadside ditch in Sirajdikhan upazila around 11 am today, killing a passenger, Nuri Begum, 45, on the spot and injuring five other members of her family.

Officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said the microbus skidded off the road and fell into the ditch as its driver lost control over the steering.

In Comilla, a bus helper was killed and 15 passengers were injured as the vehicle fell into a roadside ditch at Miabazar in Chouddagram upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim, 24.

Witnesses said Brahmanbaria-bound bus from Chittagong plunged into the ditch at about 10 am, killing Karim on the spot and injuring 15 passengers.

The injured were taken to Chouddagram upazila health complex and Comilla Medical College Hospital.

In another accident in Comilla, 30 passengers were injured in a bus plunge at Daulatpur in Gouripur around 12:30 pm.

Injured were admitted at Gouripur hospital.

Yet in another accident in the district, two motorcyclists were killed when their bike fell into a roadside ditch after a vehicle hit it from behind at Khadghar in Chandina upazila on Friday night.

The deceased were Lokman Hossain, 28, son of Ismail Hossain of Bankut village in Debidwar upazila and his cousin Osman Gani, 10.

Highway police said the motorcycle carrying Ismail and Osman skidded off the road and fell into the ditch after an unknown vehicle dashed it from behind.

On information, police and firefighters fished out the bodies from the ditch.

The two cousins met their tragic end when they were going to their village home from the capital to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their near and dear ones.
