News - Bapex discovers new gas layer in Koilashtila
Sylhet, Aug 19 (UNB) - Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex) has found a new gas layer at a well of Koilashtila gas field in Golapganj upazila of the district.

Petrobangla Chairman Hossain Monsur on Sunday revealed the information, saying works to produce gas from the new layer will start after Eid-ul-Fitr.

He said at least 15-20 million cubic feet of gas could be added to the national grid a day from the new well with a flow rate of 2,200 million cubic feet.

Bapex Managing Director Mortuza Ahmed Faruque said the new gas layer has been discovered while conducting a 3D-seismic survey and work-over at the well-4 of the gas field.

Bapex conducted the 3D-seismic survey within a 190-square kilometre radius to detect the gas reserve in Koilashtila gas filed anew.

He said new gas layer lies at a depth in between 2,722 and 2,729 metres.

Gas production at the well remained suspended for several months as water had started coming out along with gas.

Over 9 crore cubic feet of gas is being produced from six wells of Koilashtila per day.
