Chittagong, Aug 19 (UNB) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized Tk 1 crore worth of Indian saris and arrested two smugglers from the city’s Pahartali area early Sunday.
The arrested were identified as Moyeen Uddin, 40, and Abdul Jalil, 38.
Operation officer of BGB Chittagong region Major Mohammad Arif said being tipped off that smugglers were taking the Indian contraband saris to the city through Chouddagram border of Comilla, a BGB team conducted a drive at Saraipara at about 12:10 am.
Later, they intercepted a covered-van and recovered 674 saris from it. They also arrested the two occupants of the van-Moyeen and Jalil.
The arrested smugglers and seized saris along with the vehicle were handed over to Pahartali Police Station.
A case was filed in this connection.
