
Dhaka, Aug 20 (UNB) – At least 10 people were killed and 81 injured in four districts, including capital Dhaka, on Monday.
According to information reaching the UNB desk, four people were killed and 34 others injured in a bus plunge near Lalbaria in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj district.
Two of the deceased were identified Subarna, 7, daughter of Sumon Mia of Abirpara village of the upazila and Abdur Rahman alias Mister, 45, son of late Suruj Mia of Char Mahmudadpur of Tongibari upazila.
Police said the accident took place when a bus, packed with 35 passengers, skidded off the road and fell into a ditch in the afternoon, killing Subarna and Abdur Rahman on the spot and injuring 32 others. Two of the injured died at a local hospital.
In Noakhali, a pickup van collided with a microbus at Banglabazar on Noakhali-Begumganj-Laxmipur road in Bagumganj upazila at about 6 am, leaving bus driver Faruk, 35, dead on the spot and 12 of its passengers injured.
The injured were rushed to Noakhali Medical College Hospital where doctors declared an injured female passenger, Shahnur Begum, 40, dead.
In Sylhet, a motorcyclist was crushed under the wheels of a truck in Jaintapur upazila in the afternoon. The victim was identified as Solaiman Ahmed, 22, son of Aiyub Ali of Sarighat village of the upazila.
In Comilla, two people were killed and 40 others injured in separate road crashes.
One of the accidents occurred when a Dhaka-bound truck collided with a Chittagong-bound microbus at Raipur village on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Daudkandi upazila around 8 am, killing micro driver Shah Alam on the spot.
In another accident, a speedy truck ran over an unidentified pedestrian at Gabindapur village in Chandina upazila on the same highway at about 6 am.
Yet in another accident, two buses collided at Padua village on the highway in Chouddagram upazila at about 2 pm, leaving 40 passengers of both buses injured. They were admitted to Feni Sadar Hospital.
In capital Dhaka, a security guard of a private firm was killed in a road accident in Motijheel area. The deceased was identified as Abu Baker, 40, a guard of Karim Chamber.
