Meherpur, Aug 22 (UNB) - A heart-warming situation brought tears of joy in their eyes as citizens of Bangladesh and Paschimbanga (West Bengal) state of India had a long craved for reunion along the two borders for four hours on Eid day (Monday) and six hours on Tuesday.
In a rare opportunity, the reunion was held along Rangmahal frontier in Gangni upazila of Meherpur and Dhara border in Karimpur thana of Nadia district in Paschimbanga from 12 pm-4 pm on Monday and 10 am-4 pm on Tuesday.
Braving inclement weather, people from two countries thronged the border areas to meet their relatives and near and dear ones after long 20/30 years.
At the initiative of the Indian government, the gate at the border was opened on both days in a bid to improve the bilateral ties between the two close neighbours.
Samir Barman, a member of Indian Border Security Force (BSF), said the relationship between India and Bangladesh would get better by allowing people of the two countries to meet each other.
He said the Indian government ordered them to open the border once during the two Eids every year.
