Old man killed in Barisal launch accident

Barisal, Aug 22 (UNB) – An old man was killed as a launch hit another launch while anchoring at the local river port on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Akram Ali, 65, son of Kashem Ali of Palashpur of the city.

Police said Akram was catching fish on a boat beside a triple-deck launch--MV Kalam Khan--at about 8am.

At that time, another triple-deck launch--MV Sundarban 8-- from Dhaka hit MV Kalam and also the boat while it was trying to anchor at the port, leaving Akram dead on the spot.

The body was sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
