Dhaka, Aug 22 (UNB) – The 8th death anniversary of Awami League leader Ivy Rahman, wife of President Zillur Rahman, will be observed on Friday.

Ivy, the then Women Affairs secretary of AL, along with others was injured in a grenade attack on an AL rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city on August 21, 2004. She later died at the Combined Military Hospital on August 24.

The ruling AL has taken up an elaborate programme, including offering fateha at her Banani grave, placing wreaths and holding milad mahfil, to observe the day.

President Zillur Rahman will also place wreaths on Ivy’s grave and that of other Aug 15 victims, and three national leaders.

Besides, a milad mahfil will be held at Bangabhaban on the occasion.

In a statement on Wednesday, AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam urged the leaders and workers of his party and front organisations to attend the programmes.
