News - India decides to bat first against New Zealand
Hyderabad, India (AP) - India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss on Thursday and elected to bat first in the opening test of a two-game series against New Zealand.

India is playing its first test after the retirements of Rahul Dravid and V.V.S.Laxman, who were the team's batting mainstays for 16 years.

This game is also Sachin Tendulkar's first international outing after becoming a Member of Parliament.

Suresh Raina was selected to bat in the middle order.

James Franklin and Chris Martin are in for New Zealand, with Jeetan Patel named as the only spinner.

The second test will be played in Bangalore from Aug. 31-Sept. 4. The test series will be followed by two Twenty20 games.
