
Dhaka, Aug 23 (UNB) - A physician of the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) was stabbed to death by robbers during a robbery at his residence in the city’s Banani area early Thursday.
The victim was identified as Narayan Chandra Dutta alias Nitai, 47, son of Tarik Kanti of Banshkhali upazila in Chittagong.
Quoting family members, police said a gang of robbers stormed into the hospital quarter residence of Narayan by cutting grills of the balcony around 4 am.
Sensing the presence of the bandits, Narayan tried to catch one of them and raised an alarm for help.
Being angered, the hoodlums stabbed the physician indiscriminately and left the place.
Critically injured, Narayan was rushed to the NIDCH and later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, police arrested two people suspecting their involvement in the robbery and murder.
