Dhaka, Aug 26 (UNB) - The 36th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam will be observed in the country tomorrow (Monday) with due respect.
Nazrul, who enriched the Bangla Literature with his genius, died at the age of 77 on this day in 1976.
Various socio-cultural and political organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day to recall his memories and contribution to the Bangla Literature.
Dhaka University will arrange a Quran Khani at its central mosque after Fajr prayers.
The DU teachers, students and other staff, led by Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, will place wreaths at the grave of the national poet near the DU central mosque at 8 am and offer fateha afterwards.
Later, a discussion will be held on the majar premises, said a DU press release on Sunday.
Nazrul Academy has taken a two-day programme to observe the death anniversary of the rebel poet and mark the 80th anniversary of the publication of his song “O Mon Ramjaner Oi Rojar Sheshe Elo Khushir Eid”.
Besides, Nazrul Institute, Bangla Academy and Shilpakala Academy have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the occasion.
Nazrul, the rebel poet of Bangla Literature, was born at Churulia in Burdwan district of West Bengal in 1899.
He explored a synthesis of different forces in a rebellion, expressing rage as well as beauty and sensitivity. His writings explored themes such as love, freedom, and revolution, and inspired people to raise their voice against oppression and injustice during the British rule.
His songs and poems were also a major source of inspiration for the freedom fighters during the War of Liberation in 1971.
