Dhaka, Aug 29 (UNB) – Sirajul Islam, a valiant freedom fighter and father of BNP MP Shammi Akhter, died of cardiac arrest here on Wednesday. He was 65.
Sirajul Islam, also a vice-president of BNP’s Chunarughat upazila unit in Habiganj, had long been suffering from old-age complications.
He is survived by three daughters, including Shammi Akhter elected to a Women's reserved seat, and a son.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed profound shock at the death of Sirajul Islam.
In a condolence message, Khaleda said the BNP leaders and activists will remember him for his outstanding contributions towards strengthening the upazila unit BNP.
She prayed for salvation of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
In another condolence message, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also expressed deep shock at the death of the freedom fighter and conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family.
