
Dhaka, Sept 2 (UNB) – The students of Dhaka University staged sit-in at the city’s Shahbagh crossing on Sunday protesting the death of a fellow student in a road accident on August 28.
Over a hundred students of the university took to the street at about 11:15 am and staged sit-in programme demanding exemplary punishment of the driver of the killer bus and Tk 10 million (one crore) as compensation from the bus owners.
Traffic came to a halt in and around the area following the programme, which created a long tailback on each side of the road in the area.
Police have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.
Towhid Zaman, a 2nd year student of International Relations Department of the DU, was killed in road accident at the Shahbag intersection in the city on August 28 when he was returning to his dormitory after participating in a meeting of Bangladesh Chhatra League .
