News - No rape incident took place in Parerhat in 1971: DW
Dhaka, Sept 10 (UNB) - The third defence witness on Monday admitted before the tribunal that an office of the Peace Committee (Collaborator) was set up occupying the building of Fakir Das in Parerhat, Pirojpur during the first phase of the Liberation War.

“I had seen, among others, Sekender Sikder, Danesh Mollah, Moslem Maulana, Abdul Gani Gazi, Shuhajuddin Moulavi and Asmat Ali Munshi in that office.  But I had never seen Delwar Hossain Sayedee there who faces trial on charges of crimes against humanity during the Liberation War,” said Nurul Huq Hawlader while making his deposition.

He said during the Bangla month of Jaistha in 1971, a makeshift Razakar camp was set up on the first floor of Rajlaxmi High School, Parerhat where he had seen Razakar Abdul Halim, Abdur Razzaq, Momin, Mohsin, Ruhul Amin, Bazlur Rahman, Habibur Rahman Mridha, A Rashid, Moshiur Rahman, Sultan, Ishaq and Solaiman. “But I had never seen Sayedee there.”

The DW-2 told the tribunal that the incident of looting of a half dozen shops at Parerhat by the Pakistan army had taken place as they reached there in the Bangla month of Baishakh in 1971 and they left Parerhat for Pirojpur after the looting.

“During the looting, I had seen, among others, Sekender Sikder, Danesh Mollah, Moslem Maulana, Gani Gazi and Asmat Ali Munshi accompanying the army. But, I had not seen Sayedee with them,” said Nurul Huq.

Nurul Huq went on saying, the following day he had heard roars from his house. “As I looked out through the window, I had seen many people whom I named earlier accompanying the army marching on the road towards Paerehat.”

“Coming out from my house, I had followed them from behind and I marked the army along with their associates crossing the bridge and moving towards Badura direction,” said the DW.

Standing under the bridge, the DW said he had watched the army entering the house of an Awami League leader and later seen the house burning.

Dismissing the evidence of prosecution witness Mahbubul Alam Hawlader, the DW told the tribunal that no incident of looting had taken place at the house of Mahbub during the Liberation War.

About the torture at Razakar camp suffered by Mannan Talukder as alleged by his brother prosecution witness Mizanur Rahman, the DW said he along with his local people had never heard of such incident.

About the allegation of handing over prosecution witness Gouranga Saha’s elder sister to the army camp for their carnal desire by Sayedee,  the DW said Gouranga’s sister was only six or seven years old at that time.

“No rape incident happened in Parerhat during the Liberation War,” claimed Nurul Huq.

The tribunal interrupted the DW as he told the tribunal that the Hindus had converted into Muslim willfully.

The tribunal asked the DW as to how he knew that the Hindus converted into Muslim willfully. “I was not present at that time, but I had heard about this in 1971,” said Nurul Huq.

The deposition over, prosecution lawyer cross-examined Nurul Huq which remained inconclusive.
