News - 116 businessmen to receive CIP cards Wednesday
Dhaka, Sep 11 (UNB) – The Ministry of Commerce will formally award the Commercially Important Person (CIP) status to 116 businessmen on Wednesday for the year 2011 in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the country's export earnings and economy.

The CIP cards will be formally handed over to the businessmen at a ceremony at Sonargaon Hotel.

Commerce Minister GM Quader will be present as the chief guest at the programme to distribute the CIP cards among the recipients.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce Ministry ABM Abul Kashem and president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI) AK Azad will be present as special guests. Commerce Secretary Mohammad Ghulam Hossain will preside over the function.

Talking to UNB, EPB vice-chairman Shubhashish Bose said the CIP status holders for 2011 will enjoy their due facilities till declaration of the CIP for 2012.

For awarding the CIP status, the ministry in cooperation with the EPB selected 78 business personalities from 17 export sectors, and the rest 38 from different chamber bodies under ex-officio category, said officials at the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
