News - Deal to reopen manpower export to Malaysia imminent
Dhaka, Sep 11(UNB) – Bangladesh and Malaysia are expected to finalise a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to re-open manpower export to Malaysia during a two-day meeting between the two countries beginning on Wednesday.

To take part in the meeting, a 10-member delegation led by Human Resource minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri S Subramaniam is expected to arrive in the city Tuesday night.

About the meeting, Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan told UNB that the Bangladesh government has already given a proposal regarding manpower export to Malaysia. In the meeting the final decision of signing MOU will be taken after discussing the proposal of Malaysia.

“In our proposal, we asked Malaysia to declare Bangladesh a source country. We also demanded that one-way air ticket should be borne by the Malaysian government and job tenure should be for five years. The salary will be equal to a citizen of Malaysia. The work time will be eight hours with overtime facilities,” Zafar added.

He also said that Bangladesh will send workers through government channels as Malaysia is interested to take manpower in this way.

Ten-member delegations from both sides will take part in the meeting.

Labour, Employment and Expatriate Welfare Minister Engineer Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain will lead the Bangladesh side while Human Resource minister of Malaysian government Datuk Seri S Subramaniam will represent the Malaysian government.
