Dhaka, Sept 13 (UNB) - Rokia Afzal Rahman, Chairman of Arlinks Group of Companies, has been elected as the vice-president of International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICC,B).
ICC Bangladesh Executive Board elected Rokia as the vice-president of Bangladesh chapter of the body at its 52nd meeting, said a press release on Thursday.
The post of the vice-president fell vacant after the demise of Square Group Chairman Samson H Chowdhury.
Rokia, also executive committee member of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), was the first female bank manager of Bangladesh as well as the first woman on the board of Bangladesh Bank.
She is a former President of the Bangladesh Employers Federation and former Chair and currently board member of Asian University for Woman.
Meanwhile, Latifur Rahman, Chairman of Transcom Group, will continue as the founder vice-president of the ICC,B.
Rokia Afzal Rahman is the Chairman of Midas Financing Ltd., Mediaworld Limited, and a Director of Reliance Insurance, ABC Radio and Mediastar Ltd.
In 1980, she went into business, setting up an agro industry and now diversified her business into insurance, media, financial institution and real estate.
