Dhaka, Sept 15 (UNB) – Sammilito Knit Parishad, led by BKMEA’s incumbent president AKM Selim Osman, has won its biennial polls bagging 22 posts of director, out of 27, according to unofficial results.

Only five candidates, out of 25, of former BKMEA president Fazlul Haque’s panel Progressive Knit Alliance, came out successful in the polls.

The elected members of Sammilito Knit Parishad are Mohammad Hatem, Habibur Rahman, Manjurul Haque, Sajahan Alam, Golam Zakaria Bhuiyan Monju, Abu Ahmed Siddique, Monsur Ahmed, GM Faruk, AH Aslam Sunny, Shamim Ahmed, Shaymol Kumar Saha, AKM Selim Osman, Emran Hossain Mithu, Shafiquzzaman, Humayun Kabir Khan, Asadul Islam, Shamsuzzaman, Mostafa Jamal Pasha, Jamaluddin, Mohiuddin Faruqui, Mahatabuddin Chowdhury and Mujibur Rahman.

Fazlul Haque, Fazle Ahsan Shamim, Kashem Jamal, AKM Zahidul Haque Bhuiyan Dipu and Masuduzzaman were elected from the Progressive Knit Alliance panel.

Current second vice president Mohammed Hatem bagged the highest votes of 504.  

The election to the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) was peacefully held on Saturday with around 91.5 percent of turnout.

Some 598 voters, out of 652, cast their votes to elect 27 directors who will later choose the new president and four vice-presidents, including 22 members, of the executive board of directors.
 
The voting was simultaneously held in BKMEA’s Dhaka office and Narayanganj Club centers. It started at 9am and continued till 4pm without any break.

A total of 52 candidates backed by two panels were there in the polls race for the 27 posts of board of directors for a two-year term.

The election was originally scheduled for July 7, but the election board of the association postponed it on July 5 following a Commerce Ministry instruction.
