Chittagong, Sept 16 (UNB) – Members of elite force Rab arrested six alleged drug peddlers along with 8,630 sex-stimulating Yaba tablets at Enayet Bazar in the city on Saturday night.

The arrestees were identified as Md Liakat, 26, son of Kabir Ahmed, Ajmal Haque, 20, son of Monwarul Haque, Md Shafique, 30, son of Kabir Ahmed, Anwara Begum, 40, wife of Nurul Haque and Baby, 18, son of Nurul Haque of Enayet Bazar, and Abul Kashem, 28, son of Badsha Mia of village Ashia in Patia.

Sources at Rab-7 said they, acting on secret information, launched a drive at a house of Haji Nurul Islam Prokash Barmaji and arrested the six ‘drug peddlers’ along with 8,360 pieces of Yaba tablet at Enayet Bazar around 10;05pm.

During preliminary investigation, the arrestees confessed that they are the members of a syndicate of Yaba peddling and had long been in the illicit business in different of the country, including the port city of Chittagong.

In another incident, police arrested three more suspected drug peddlers along with 1000 pieces of Yaba at Segunbagan Canteen Gate in Khulshi area on the same night.

The arrestees are Abdul Goni, 38, Shaker, 25 and Harun, 19 of Teknaf.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chitttagong Metropolitan police Mostaque Ahmed said they, tipped off by locals, launched a drive and arrested the three along with 1000 Yaba tablets at midnight.
