Dhaka, Sept 19 (UNB) – Apparel exporters on Wednesday urged the newly appointed Railways Minister M Mujibul Haque to take steps for increasing the number of locomotives and carriers for Container trains to quicken goods transportation between Dhaka and Chittagong.

They also sought full support from the Minister to ensure smooth container train service to expedite export-import container delivery.

The apparel exporters put forward the demand at a meeting with the Railways Minister at his Rail Bhaban office.

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president M Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, second vice president M Siddiqur Rahman, vice president SM Mannan Kochi and additional secretary (Customs) M Azizur Rahman were, among others, present at the meeting.

The BGMEA delegation also urged the Railways Minister to improve the quality of railway services and setting up a cord line on Narayanganj-Laksam route.

The Minister listened to the BGMEA demands and assured of addressing the issue.
