Rangpur, Sept 23 (UNB) – The evidence of massacre, rape, arson and looting has been found against Jamaat-e-Islami’s acting secretary general ATM Azharul Islam, said an investigation officer.
“A final report on the evidence will be submitted to the prosecution within the next two months,” said Chief Investigation Officer (CIO) of the International Crime Tribunal Sanaul Haque on Sunday.
He made the disclosure while addressing a views-exchange meeting at Rangpur Circuit House.
Azharul Islam had reportedly committed crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971 when he was the district unit president of Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing Islami Chhatra Sangha, now Islami Chhatra Shibir.
An ICT investigation team visited the spots of massacre in Rangpur Sadar and Badarganj upazila on Sunday and collected evidence.
DIG of Rangpur Range Binoy Kishna Bala, additional district magistrate Shahidul Islam, family members and relatives of slain freedom fighters, local political leaders, members of civil society and journalists, among others, were present at the views-exchange meeting.
