News - Govt to increase manpower in missions for better services to expatriates: FM Dipu Moni

Dhaka, Nov 18 (UNB) - Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni said the government would take necessary measures to increase manpower in Bangladesh embassies and missions across the world to provide better services to the expatriate Bangladeshis.

“The government will think about opening a consulate office in Milan city of Italy,” said the Foreign Minister giving directives to the Bangladesh embassy officials across the world to give their best efforts for ensuring fast and quality services to the expatriates.

In this context, she stressed the need for giving modern training to the officials of the airports and embassy offices for providing quality services to the air passengers and expatriates.

Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni was talking to the expatriate Bangladeshis in an exchange of opinions in Rome Tuesday, said a message received here today (Wednesday).

As the expatriates informed her about difficulties in sending their hard-earned money to their family members, Dipu Moni assured them of the government’s initiative to set up Expatriate Welfare Bank in the country for their financial betterment.

She also said the government would look into the matter whether any branch of a state-owned bank could be set up in Rome or in any other Italian city.

During the meeting, the expatriates informed the Foreign Minister of various problems they are facing in Italy.

“Despite resource constraints, the present government is working round the clock for betterment of the people, including its expatriate human resources,” Dipu Moni said assuring the expatriates of providing best efforts from the government for their maximum welfare.

She requested the expatriates to make investment in larger volumes in the country and thus help the government in expediting socioeconomic development of the country.

The expatriates also requested the Foreign Minister to take immediate measures by the government to increase flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines between Dhaka and Rome and, if possible, other cities of Italy.
