
Natore, Jan 02 (UNB) – Local BNP on Wednesday called off its daylong hartal called for Thursday in the district demanding the release of BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and the party’s central leader Ruhul Kuddus Talukdar Dulu.
District BNP general secretary Aminul Haque announced the decision while addressing a human chain programme in front of the party office at Alaipur in the town on Wednesday noon. The programme was held to press home release of the arrested leaders.
The BNP leader said the decision was taken considering people’s sufferings.
Leaders of the district unit BNP on Tuesday announced the shutdown while addressing a rally, which was held marking the founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of BNP, in the town.
Mirza Fakhrul was arrested in the capital following two cases were filed against him with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Paltan police stations in the capital for torching vehicles during the BNP-led 18-party opposition's countrywide road blockade on December 9, last year.
Dulu was arrested from his Alaipur residence in the district town on the night of December, 8, 2012 in connection with a case filed for the killing of a local Jubo League leader.
